What Makes A Hero, Part 1: Petrona

The recently created Deeper Than That podcast interviews Petrona, an Escuelita Maya graduate, community nominated Princessa Maya and the first recipient of the SALTT Alumni College Scholarship. In this episode, Petrona discusses her life, the struggles she has experienced as a child of immigrants and her relationship with her Mayan culture. The Guatemalan Maya Center's former Assistant Executive Director, Tim Gamwell, is also interviewed.

"Petrona is a first-generation American and the first person in her family to go to college. The road to higher education was anything but easy. In this episode, Petrona helps me define the characteristics of a hero by sharing her story."
