ESCUELITA MAYA
The Escuelita Maya was founded to provide afterschool educational support to the children of migrant workers. It has expanded to two locations, serving over 160 children in its preschool, aftercare, and summer camp programs.
VPK &
PRESCHOOL
Founded in 2011, our Escuelita Maya preschool programs help provide the Florida Voluntary Prekindergarten Education Program to children in underserved communities. Most of our children speak Spanish or a Mayan language at home, in school we teach them English while fostering pride in their home language and culture. Our culturally competent early childhood education prepares them for future academic success.
AFTER SCHOOL CARE
Since 1998, we’ve provided affordable after school and summer care that supports students' social and emotional development. Through field trips, cultural activities, and academic lessons, we teach our children how to curiously engage with the world and others. Originally offered exclusively to children in Elementary School, our program has expanded in 2025 to support Middle School students as well.
SUMMER CAMP
Each summer, children participate in activities like free swimming lessons, field trips, and fun educational projects in their Escuelita Maya summer camp. For two weeks, the children also take part in a camp run by the SALTT club from Immaculata-La Salle High School in Miami and the SALTT Youth Group at the Guatemalan-Maya Center. Here, the children take part in classes such as cooking, musical theatre, sports, dance, and arts & crafts.
VOLUNTEER
Our aftercare program also offers the unique opportunity for our children to get personalized and individual one-on-one tutoring. This award winning program is made entirely possible through the work of our wonderful volunteers. If you are an adult and would like to be a tutor, please feel free to email our Tutoring Director, Mr. Barry at bglaz@guatemalanmaya.org for more information.
If you are a high school student in Lake Worth Beach and would like to join our SALTT Youth Group and volunteer as a camp counselor, email Mayra at mcardenas@guatemalanmaya.org for more information.
