WHO WE ARE
Our team is a vibrant and diverse group made up of Maya people, community members, and immigrants from across the globe. United by our shared commitment to preserving culture, promoting justice, and supporting one another, we bring together a wealth of knowledge, experience, and perspectives from within our own communities and beyond. Join our mission in serving the families in a culturally and linguistically appropriate manner.
Tutoring
Tutoring is conducted in person in English with students from kindergarten through fifth grade on weekdays from 3:30-5:30 pm. We also tutor Pre-K children in the mornings on weekdays. We ask that each volunteer serve up to 2 hours per week. Tutors working with children in first grade and above will tutor both reading and math. Tutors working with our younger children will only tutor reading. We have two Escuelita Maya after-school centers in Lake Worth, about 1 mile apart from each other. Volunteer tutors must be at least 18 years of age and pass a background check. If you’re interested, please contact our tutoring coordinator Mr. Barry at bglaz@guatemalanmaya.org
